Whether on your own or with a partner, retirement is the perfect time in your life to simply enjoy every day. Planning ahead now can help you get the most out of these years.

Retirement is not the time to curl up and decide life is done. In fact, it’s quite the opposite! Now is the time to get the gumption to take those trips you never had time for, let your inner artist out, rekindle friendships, and seek adventure. In fact, the retirement years are years of freedom. Follow these tips to thoroughly enjoy retirement.

Have a Plan

Planning isn’t as fun as the actual retirement itself, but without a plan, you may feel a bit lost when the time comes.

If you haven’t already, start creating a financial plan and tucking away money for your fun years ahead. Life isn’t all about working, so use the career years as a means to get you to the retirement years.

Seek a financial advisor, if necessary, to help with financial decisions. They can recommend your ideal investment options. Often, those are stocks, mutual funds, or any high-yielding savings accounts.

When getting a late start in the game of saving and investing, many people choose investment properties to fund their retirement. There is always a need for real estate, and owning a rental property can generate passive income during retirement.

Set Goals

Start dreaming of retirement if you aren’t there yet. If you are there, keep dreaming of new things you’d like to try.

Part of planning for retirement is thinking about how you would like to use the time. The last thing you want is to enjoy the retirement party and the next day wake up thinking, “Now what?” Set your goals now and jump in with both feet.

Friendships

Make new friends but keep the old. Life is busy, but one of the blessings of retirement is the opportunity to rekindle friendships that were put on the back burner while raising children or working tirelessly at careers.

Call up your old gal pals and start giggling again.

While enjoying tried-and-true friendships, it may also be time to invest in some new ones. We grow and change over time and sometimes long for other people who share our new interests and zest for life.

One fun way to do this is through meet-up groups. There are a plethora of social sites where you can find like-minded, fabulous people who share the same interests as you.

Live Purposefully

Seize the day! After all, we only have today; the past is gone, and we can’t predict tomorrow. In retirement, wake up each day knowing today is your day and you may do with it whatever you choose.

Every morning, remind yourself why you retired and what your intentions are for yourself during this time of life.

No matter your aspirations, you deserve this time and should enjoy every minute you spend chasing that dream—whether that dream is opening a small business or sipping piña coladas in a hammock.

Enjoy these tips to thoroughly enjoy retirement, and show the rest of the world that the golden years are not only golden but vibrant.
