Check out Angela, age 45. Isn’t she gorgeous? Here was her note to us:

 “I stopped coloring my hair about three years ago. To do it, I let about one inch of my natural color grow out, and then I cut off all the colored hair.

I love the ease of it and get SO many compliments from friends and strangers. Now I am thinking of letting it grow out. So I perused the internet to get the courage up to do it and found your site. I love this site. Thanks for making it.”

    Hmmm…not convinced. While she may be very lovely both ways, to me she looks older with gray hair. I'll bet she'd experience age discrimination with the gray hair…it's a very real, invidious problem for women who are gray — even if you have lots of energy, spunk, competence. Gray hair on men is viewed so much differently than gray hair on women.

      There is no war on women. I see only strength. We do what we want to do. This is a new trend and most women are use to dyeing, that is all.

    I think she looks fabulous. The "problem" with gray hair on women is one that needs to be addressed by more women "letting" their hair go gray. It is natural. It is not "abnormal". More women with the courage to allow their gray hair to show raises the issue of age discrimination against women to a level of awareness. Be brave… let your gray flag fly!

      It is a women thing this color dye, has been for too many years. Dont fear the positive of change. That is how we started moving up in Corperate. Dont stop now.

    Does anyone have advice for me? I have very fine hair, especially on top, which is where all my gray hairs are. I've always highlighted it because I was told it would add body. I don't want to do any color any more at all, but won't it be harder for me with this very fine hair, to keep my hair looking nice?

      Abbie- Let me preface this by saying that I do NOT speak from experience. However, I seem to remember reading several people's comments saying that they experienced some thickening of their hair once they stopped coloring. I don't know if this is the case for everyone, but figured it was at least worth mentioning. Good luck! 🙂

      I have superfine hair, 80% silver/white. My stylist changed me from a bob to a layered cut and I have GREAT volume, even without color. Be careful around the sun: tanning or burning makes your scalp show through the white.

    My gray is ridiculous. It is here and there and when not colored, it looks unkempt. I would love to stop coloring it. Do I then use gray coloring to get it going? I'm almost 65 and there's not a lot of gray hair that looks nice.

      Well if she does look older as a few have said it may be the combo of short AND gray hair. And even so, SO WHAT?! The benefits outweigh the drawbacks and she is not living her life to please people like you. She is doing what is comfortable for herself and her life. Applause applause applause. ?

    Not a big fan of grey on woman or men.. It in most cases in person looks dry and brittle.
